Résumé
Les dénominations des mois en langue fɔn du Sud-Bénin ne traduisent plus les phénomènes climatiques et activités agraires actuelles, ce qui fait que des Fɔnnu
n’arrivent plus à se situer par rapport au calendrier agricole. Nous avons donc dénommé
à nouveau ces mois, en partant d’une analyse morphosémantique des dénominations actuelles, de façon à traduire les réalités actuelles. Nous nous sommes inspiré, à cet effet, de Maurice (1977) et de Tchitchi (1984). Nous avons collecté les noms de mois et les
facteurs climatiques et agraires les déterminant par un questionnaire et des entretiens
semi-directifs auprès de 95 ménages appartenant au groupe sociolinguistique fɔ̀n. Huit
dénominations de mois sur douze ont dû être reformées. A l’image des actuelles dénominations, les nouvelles sont des syntagmes nominaux de détermination composés d’un déterminant suivi d’un déterminé. Le déterminé est le lexème nominal simple de base sùn renvoyant à l’idée de première lune à la douzième lune en fonction de ses déterminants. Le déterminant est soit un nom simple, soit un nom composé, soit un
syntagme nominal de détermination ou de complémentation. Il traduit l’idée d’un climat
ou d’une activité agraire.

Abstract
The denominations of the months in the fɔn language of South Benin no longer reflect the
climatic phenomena and current agrarian activities, which means that Fɔnnu can no
longer be found in relation to the agricultural calendar. We therefore called again these months, starting from a morphosemantic analysis of the current denominations, so as to
translate the current realities. To this end, we have drawn inspiration from Maurice
(1977) and Tchitchi (1984). We collected the month names and climatic and agrarian
factors that determined them by a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with 95
households belonging to the fon sociolinguistic group. Eight denominations of the month
out of twelve had to be reformed. Like the current denominations, news are a nominal
phrase of determination composed of a determinant followed by a determinate one. The determinate is the basic simple nominal lexeme sùn, referring to the idea of the first moon
at the twelfth moon according to its determinants. The determinant is either a simple
name, a compound name, or a nominal phrase of determination or complementation. It conveys the idea of a climate or an agrarian activity.
