MOTIVATION POUR LES ÉTUDES ET PERFORMANCES ACADÉMIQUES DES ÉTUDIANTS DE L’UNIVERSITE NORBERT ZONGO AU BURKINA FASO

Résumé
L’objectif de cet article est de vérifier la relation qui existe entre la motivation pour les
études et les performances académiques chez les étudiants à l’Université Norbert Zongo
au Burkina Faso. Pour atteindre cet objectif, un échantillon composé de 527 étudiants
volontaires et consentants inscrits en Licence a été constitué. L’Echelle de motivation
dans les études (EME) de Vallerand et al. (1989) et un questionnaire sociodémographique
ont été utilisés pour renseigner sur les différentes variables et les caractéristiques des
participants. Les données collectées ont été soumises aux analyses de variances et au test
Khi deux. Les résultats indiquent que les bons étudiants sont ceux qui ont des scores
élevés de motivation pour les études. Entre le genre et la motivation pour les études
d’une part et les performances académiques d’autre part, il n’y a pas eu de différences
significatives.

Abstract
The aim of this research is to test the relationship between educational motivation and
academic performance of students at Norbert Zongo University in Burkina Faso. To reach
this goal, a sample of 527 voluntary and willing students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree
was formed. The educational motivation scale (EME) by Vallerand et al. (1989), together
with and a socio-demographic survey were used to inform about the different variables
and characteristics of the participants. The collected data were subjected to variance
analysis and the Chi-square test. The results indicate that the better students are those
who have higher scores of educational motivation. Between gender and educational
motivation on the one hand, and academic performance and educational motivation on
the other, there are no significant differences.
