This research work attempts to find out the secondary school learners’ writing problems with a particular attention to the teaching-learning of the English sentence fragment. Through questionnaire and observation, it appears that teachers only concentrate on the different sentence forms in English (Affirmative-Negative-Interrogative-Interro negative). They totally neglect the teaching-learning of English sentence items in general and sentence fragment in particular. Two reasons can justify the reasons why teachers behave so. Firstly, the lack of teaching strategies to cope with this English language issue as regards the teachers’ training process. Secondly, the INRAP (Institut National de Recherche et d’Action Pédagogiques) researchers fail to organize in-service training in order to reinforce teachers’ capacities through seminars and workshops. Consequently, the secondary school learners are unable to solve some writing exercises in English. This article suggests the teaching strategies and a sample of a lesson plan to guide both teachers and learners implement the selected items in classes successfully.

IDENTITY POETICS AND CULTURAL GENETICS: MAPPING DANCE AND MEMORIES IN PAULE MARSHALL’S PRAISESONG FOR THE WIDOW

Exclusively converging on Paule Marshall’s fiction, this article examines the author’s perspective on the impact of colonialism on the psyche of African Americans and Caribbeans. Marshall’s reformulation of West Indian experience lies definitely between American cultural bequest and African ethos. Her literary and memorial discourse expresses the peculiar bond existing between race, identity and culture. As such, Praisesong for the widow (1983) engraves the issues of memory and cultural genetics in its poetics of identity. Accordingly, the intent of this article is to examine the extent to which history influences both culture and memory. The paper also explores the sense of belonging to an African diasporic community and the twisting pathway to memorial reconstruction. The resilience to dominant and exclusive cultures as well as the recognition of the creolization of identities in a context of an atypical historiography is of paramount interest. This article validates then traces, rituals and dances are core motifs and tropes which inform the process of memorial recovery unavoidably concomitant to a multilayered and polygonal construction of identities through cultural expeditions.

To transgress is to infringe, to violate a law, to refuse to comply with standards, to respect an established order. By refusing to write the novel like her realist predecessors of the nineteenth century, Christine Angot transgresses. How does she do this? How does she engage in this enterprise? The article attempts to address these questions from a narratological approach. It demonstrates that the narrative in Incest is subversive thematically, generically and linguistically. First of all, homosexuality and incest are two religiously forbidden practices. Their choice is therefore a deliberate desire of the writer to break a taboo. Then, the novel, the genre with which the corpus is identified, is deconstructed. Its main categories, which are, among others, space, time, the narrator are revisited. Added to this is the generic decompartmentalization that is based on the mixture of genres and forms since Incest oscillates between novel, autofiction and confession. Last, this text is a combination of various types of expression; popular language, coarse language or even syntactic distortions. All in all, the subversion of writing reflects the author's quest for freedom.

In Benin, while some education-related indicators are quite bright, primary school dropout rates have generally been trending upward between 2014 and 2020. The country continues to lose a significant number of students throughout the primary cycle. In 2020, approximately 12.35% of children dropped out of school without obtaining the Certificate of Primary Education (CEP). This phenomenon, which persists despite the mobilization of all school stakeholders, is the result of several factors as varied as they are complex. This research aims to understand the extent of the phenomenon in the country. It required both qualitative and quantitative data collected through appropriate collection tools administered to two hundred and seventy-four (274) respondents. The results show that school dropout is an endemic phenomenon that resists the numerous educational strategies that have been implemented for several years. To reverse the trend, the research suggests new avenues of reflection for government officials.

Among the representations that recur repeatedly in Western culture about Africa, the one of a "savage" continent that is the epitome of misery, epidemics, famine, tribal wars or violence of any kind stands out. Denominations such as "disaster continent" or "heart of darkness" are also not uncommon. From this chaotic image of Africa, a new discourse has emerged since the second half of the 20th century, namely the development discourse. This paper used postcolonial and discourse analytic approaches to address how this discourse of African misery is constructed in contemporary literature or Western media. In this context, the thesis was particularly interested in the intertwining of the chaotic image of Africa that prevails in the Western imaginary with the discourses around "development aid." This involves the question of why the West maintains a bleak image of the so-called "black continent" even in the age of globalisation and the internet, and how an equal cultural exchange between Africa and Europe can succeed. Furthermore, the work has addressed the question of whether Africa's standard of development must always be determined from the perspective of the West and whether development aid is the appropriate way for Africa's economic recovery.

Some feminist scholars qualified women’s implication in domestic violence against men as self-defence or retaliation. This paper examines the context and interaction that may lead women to abuse men in The Housemaid and Mema (2003) through womanist and radical feminist approaches. As findings, women’s domestic violence on men has appeared as a product of radical feminism because radical feminist ideology is contrary to that of womanists. Through the study of the female characters such as Sekyiwa and her husband’s ex-wife in Darko’s novel and a female character, Mema, in Mengara’s novel, the motives paving the way for women’s violence on men/husbands can be traced in the followings: female masculinity, women’s deliberate will to maintain control over men due to their economic advantage, age difference, revenge and violation of African values related to marriage. Women’s violence on men may lead to the increase of men’s violence on women. Violent African women may lose the support or defence of their societies and social institutions designed to maintain gender equality/equity. So, it is advisable for African women not to make justice themselves but recourse to nonviolent approaches and to competent law enforcement institutions whether modern or traditional in order to defend themselves.

Postulating that the local perceptions made out of the use of the mangrove resources induce their degradation, this endogenous research article aims to scrutinize the soportrayed social phenomenon through the lens of qualitative method principles. In order to formulate its objectives the ongoing research has adopted direct observation and semistructured interview conducted with sixteen respondents systematically sampled along the diversification and saturation lines. As a matter of fact, one of the requirements of the sustainable development paradigm seems to be the responsible exploitation of the natural resources continuously threatened and endangered by the impacts of climate change. Such a responsible use is not always respected within some communities. As a result, emerges the destruction of resources like the Togbin-Daho mangrove in Southern Benin. The findings analyzed and discussed against the backdrop of the theories of social representations and tragedy of the commons reveal that the perceptions of the riparian population about the Togbin-Daho mangrove substantiate their way of use, and thereby its destruction.

This research work explores the impact of teacher professional development on the academic performance of EFL students. It examines the importance of the teacher education program and how it influences their teaching proficiency and the performance of their EFL learners. A qualitative research methodology was adopted for this study. Twenty (20) EFL teachers were the participants in this study, including five (05) teachers who have received professional training and fifteen (15) teachers who have not received professional training. The participants were purposively selected from three (3) public schools in two regions of Benin. Classroom observation and interviews were the instruments of data collection and the data gathered were analysed using a content analysis. The main findings of this study indicated that teacher training is important in influencing the quality of teaching and learning. Many Beninese EFL teachers do not have professional training, which contributes to the poor academic performance of students. This is because untrained teachers are inexperienced, while trained teachers use appropriate techniques to teach and understand the psychology of their learners. The availability of qualified teachers will result in better learning outcomes. In short, it was recommended that government and educational authorities organize in-service training programs for teachers to improve the quality of their teaching.

Inclusive policy is at the heart of issues in education for people with disabilities. In the Ivorian education system, it has been put in place thanks to education for all in primary and secondary education. In this sense, the integration of children with disabilities in socalled ordinary classes with teachers trained on their learning needs has been possible. People with disabilities have the opportunity to enroll in Ivorian schools and the university is not spared. The surveys in our study looked at the issue of inclusive education within the university system. The surveys in our study looked at the issue of inclusive education within the university system. In this context, the mechanisms observed in Ivorian primary and secondary education seem to be barely perceptible for the integration of students with disabilities in higher education. This study aims to analyze the explanatory factors of the level of integration of students with disabilities at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny University of Abidjan. Methodologically, this study is qualitative. At the end of this study, it emerged that the social representations, the constraints encountered by students with disabilities as well as the institutional and practical responses have an impact on their level of integration.

Social demands in terms of education are increasingly growing and multifaceted, especially in the area of evaluative behaviors of preschool educators. In Senegal, the problem of the evaluative attitude of educators, according to sex, is acute. This research aims to study the evaluative behaviors of educators towards preschool boys and girls crossed with their level of mastery of learning, their standard of living or certain characteristics of the educator. Mixed in nature, this predominantly qualitative research used quantitative data to illustrate the theoretical corpus. The sample includes five hundred (500) students, including two hundred and thirty-seven (237) girls, two hundred and sixty-three (263) boys and sixteen (16) educators distributed in all the preschool sections and in five establishments of the commune. of Rufisque. The variables under study are the gender of the student as an independent variable and the behavior of the educator as a dependent variable. The results from the analysis of covariance that we carried out in this research fairly clearly confirm the hypotheses formulated. They show on the one hand that the behavior of educators is clearly more positive towards girls than towards boys. And on the other hand, these results show significantly that more girls are endearing than boys and more boys are excluded compared to girl students.
